The people of Kagatsu

Village in the Shade’s cast lives in the official character introductions and patch notes. These are the named villagers we can verify:

Rin — the town leader

Grants you the farm plot in exchange for labor. The village’s authority figure and your anchor to its social order.

Kisuke — the carpenter

Early 30s, stoic, takes pride in his work — and uses a lot of swear words. One of the two villagers who find you at the story’s start. Warms up slowly. Full profile: Kisuke.

Komako — who finds you

The other villager present at the story’s opening. Part of the first impression Kagatsu makes on you — and you on it.

Tobari — tied to the hokora

Associated with the crossroads shrine in Shade mode; Tobari’s hokora request is part of the farmland expansion conditions in Patch 1.20. Full profile: Tobari.

Chinana — the livestock seller

Runs the stall that sells the Patch 1.20 animal additions: Silkie Chickens, Mallards, Fluffy Cows, and Spotted Goats.

Nago — Sunshine Mode's newcomer

Nago moves in during Sunshine Mode and gates that mode’s versions of update events (birthday setup, farmland expansion).

Additional named villagers — Shiroji and Yuta — appear in official character material; their roles are documented more thinly, and this page will grow as profiles are verified.

Friendship, gifts, and events

    • Villagers start distant — several treat you coldly at first (Kisuke included) and warm with gifts, errands, and good deeds.
    • Every good deed is rewarded — one of the village rules, and mechanically true.
    • Festivals (summer festival, cherry-blossom viewing) are the big friendship moments on the calendar.
    • Patch 1.30 added the protagonist’s birthday event: villagers at affection level 3+ celebrate and may bring gifts (Year 2+, with mode-specific prerequisites).

For the systems side, see the beginner guide; for what the village is protecting, the rules explained.
